Preparing Your Device for Repair

August 23, 2026

Before You Hand Over Your Device

Taking a few minutes to prepare your device before a repair can protect your data, speed up the repair, and help avoid misunderstandings. Here's what we recommend.

1. Back Up Your Data

This is the most important step. Always back up your device before any repair, even a minor one. Use iCloud, Google Drive, or a local computer backup. Repair shops are not responsible for data loss during a repair.

2. Remove Personal Accounts

  • iPhone: Consider signing out of iCloud (Settings → your name → Sign Out) to avoid Activation Lock issues.
  • Android: Consider removing your Google account (Settings → Accounts → Google → Remove) if your device will be factory reset.

3. Disable Screen Lock (Temporarily)

If the repair shop needs to test your device after the repair, it helps to temporarily set a simple PIN or disable the lock screen so they can verify the fix without needing your passcode.

4. Note Any Existing Damage

Take photos of your device before handing it over — especially any pre-existing scratches, cracks, or dents. This protects both you and the repair shop from disputes about damage.

5. Remove Cases & Accessories

Take off any case, screen protector, or attachments before handing in your device. These may need to be removed anyway, and keeping them safe is your responsibility.

6. Get a Receipt

Always ask for a written receipt or job card that describes the repair to be carried out and the agreed price. Bookings made through FIXIO automatically generate a booking confirmation for your records.
